BILL KIRCHEN’S AND HAMMER OF THE HONKY-TONK GODS STORM THE BULL RUN RESTAURANT ON DECEMBER 5

Shirley, MA. — Best known for his trademark big-rig guitar on the Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen single “Hot Rod Lincoln,” which went Top 10 in 1972, Kirchen has amassed a respectable catalog of seven critically acclaimed albums that helped crystallize the format now known as Americana (pioneered by acts like Commander Cody some 35 years ago).

On his newest album, “Hammer of the Honky-tonk Gods”, Kirchen reunites with friends who have accompanied him on recent albums. Nick Lowe, who refers to Kirchen as “a devastating culmination of elegant and funky,” signs on as bassist and backing vocalist. Robert Trehern plays drums while Geraint Watkins and Austin DeLone man the keyboards. The whole thing was co-produced by Paul Riley and Kirchen. For this album, Kirchen decided to put an accent on his songwriting, a talent that is sometimes overshadowed by his dazzling instrumental virtuosity.

BOULDER COFFEEHOUSE RETURNS OCTOBER 11

The Boulder Coffeehouse features Stuart Ferguson, Saturday 7:30, October
11th.

"Stuart Ferguson writes and performs a collection of stunning, heartfelt songs on his latest album Shackles & Ties. He's an excellent guitar player and fine singer who demonstrates an amazing ability for capturing life's unending moments in song. And although his compositions seem to have an underlying current of sadness, there is a strong sense of hope derived from Ferguson's acute observations. His songs are masterfully craftedand performed." -- Metronome Magazine (May 2008)

Proceeds will be split between the host church and a non-profit organization of Stuart's choice.

GREEN ROOSTER RETURNS FOR 12TH SEASON THIS SATURDAY

The Green Rooster Coffeehouse at United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Rd. , Worcester , MA 01609; 508-798-3010 or visit us on the web at http://www.ucc-worcester.org

Welcome to our 12th year in providing great folk, acoustic and original music to the heart of New England . We appreciate your support that allows this venue to continue. There certainly is a place for our kinds of music and presentations in the greater Worcester scheme and scene. I often sit at the sound board and think the show going on is amazing, live art – and if it didn’t happen here it just would not happen at all, to everyone’s loss! So keep on coming, and we’ll keep trying to make it worthwhile. My motto is: We must be doing something, right?

GOSLOW ON ONE OF THE BEST GLASS SHOWS TO HIT WORCESTER EVER: AT CRAFTS CENTER TILL OCT 11

Perspective & Vision: The Glass of Martin Rosol and Josh Simpson

Worcester Center for Crafts
25 Sagamore Road
Worcester, Massachusetts

September 18 through October 11

Trying to touch base with Josh Simpson to talk about his work in this show probably gives one as direct an indirect answer as one could get regarding the inspiration for his planetary “Megaworlds” glass works. After waiting for him to return from a trip to Russia (where the colors of St. Basil are as magnificent as any on this earth), which followed a visit to Iceland earlier this summer, I catch him on the way out the door to take a pilot’s instrument license test with a FAA instructor. Put together those three experiences alone it all becomes a lot clearer. (or see for yourself at http://www.joshsimpson.com)

ANNUAL KELLEY SQUARE NAMESAKE CELEBRATION HELD

Salutations.

The time is upon us to celebrate the heroic life and death of one of Worcester's bravest sons, Sergeant Cornelius F. Kelley.

As the namesake of Worcester's most unique and defining crossroad (see the story at the end of http://www.worcestermagazine.com/content/view/1980/), Cornelius Kelley intills all with the bravery and gusto essential in navigating his furious roadway - bravery not unlike that for which Cornelius himself was cited and awarded the Croix de Guerre, the highest honor for bravery in battle, in France, 1918.

"Under violent shellfire, he repaired the telephone lines of his battery with the greatest of coolness and the most absolute indifference to danger."
